MEN'S GOLF: Ball State in first after two rounds

Four Cardinals in top-five in tournaments individual rankings.

Cold and windy weather did not stop Ball State from playing well on its home turf.

After the first two rounds of the Cardinals' home tournament, the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, they have a comfortable 19-stroke lead ahead of second place Northern Illinois and Bowling Green.

Individually, the Cardinals hold four of the top five spots on the board.

Ball State is competing with two teams in the tournament. The B-team is in eighth place after two rounds.

Senior Eric Steger is leading the tournament with an overall one-under par 139. Freshman Tyler Merkel is following closely in second place with a two-over 142.

Sophomore Alex Stinson is in fourth place, swinging an four-over 144.

Junior TJ Carpenter rounds out the top five for the Cardinals with an overall score of a five-over 145. 

Sophomore Joe Gasser is tied for 24th with a score of 150 (+10). Sophomore Tony Lazzara is tied for 34th with a 152 (+12).  Sophomore Brodie Williams is tied for 42nd with a 153 (+13).

Senior Wes Phelps is tied for 21st with a score of 149 (+9). Freshman Connor O'Neal is tied for 30th with a 151 (+11). Junior Zach Treash is tied for 42nd with a 153 (+13).

Senior Anthony Novak stands in a tie for 73rd with a 180 (+40). 

The final round is set to begin at 9 a.m. today.
