FOOTBALL: Stan Parrish achieves Sainthood

Former Ball State coach takes quarterbacks job at Siena Heights

Stan Parrish, who was fired by Ball State as the head football coach in November, has found a new home.

The 64-year-old coach accepted the quarterbacks coach position at Siena Heights University for its inaugural season.

Parrish took the job on a volunteer basis, which will free him from recruiting requirements and allow him to focus solely on mentoring the quarterbacks.

"He'd like to give something back to the game," coach Jim Lyall said.

Parrish did not return a request for an interview Wednesday.

Siena Heights is a Catholic school in Adrian, Mich. The university competes at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics level.

Siena Heights was approved as a program in May and will play their first game on Sept. 10 against Robert Morris. They will play a junior varsity schedule in 2011 before joining the Mid-States Football Association in 2012.

Parrish has previously been a quarterbacks coach at Michigan and Ball State.

The Division I experience Parrish brings to the new program will be extremely helpful, Lyall said.

"It's a tremendous boon to our program from the standpoint that his name is very recognizable. If his name isn't for younger kids, the quarterbacks that he's coached from Ball State to Michigan to the NFL certainly are," Lyall said.

Lyall played at Michigan from 1970 to 1973. He said he met Parrish following the elder coach's time with the Wolverines from 1996 to 2001.

"When he was back in the area, a couple of the former coaches contacted me and said that Stan might be interested in volunteering his time," Lyall said.

Ball State dismissed Parrish as head coach after the 2010 season. He went 6-19 in two seasons at the helm of the Cardinals.

Based on the firing, Ball State still owes Parrish $700,000 over the next two years.
