BASEBALL: Ball State sweeps double-header at Buffalo

Cardinals will resume play Sunday looking for series sweep

Ball State (10-23, 7-4 MAC) picked up its third Mid-American Conference series victory of the season Friday by sweeping a double-header against the Buffalo Bulls (7-25, 0-11 MAC).

The Cardinals won game one by a score of 7-4 while taking the second game 8-3.

Ball State received back-to-back superb performances from its starting pitchers. Junior right-hander Cal Bowling worked eight innings and allowed just two unearned runs, while senior lefty Derek Grabner tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs.

Both pitchers were credited with a win.

Bowling (4-2) was one inning shy from recording his fourth straight complete game. He is now 9-1 in his career against MAC opponents and has tossed 35 of a possible 36 innings in conference play this season.

The Cardinals and Bulls will have an off day Saturday before concluding the weekend series Sunday at 1 p.m.

Ball State looks to sweep the series while the Bulls are still in search for their first conference win of the season.
