MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State finishes last in Boise State Spring Tournament

Cardinals struggle with Morrison out with injury

It will be a long flight back to Muncie for the men's tennis team.

Out of the eight team field in the Boise State Spring Tournament, the Cardinals finished dead last.

Ball State was the only team to lose all three of their matches, losing to Saint Mary's 4-2, Marquette 5-1, and Portland 5-1.

For the first time since mid-January, the Cardinals have a losing record. They dropped to 8-10 and have lost their last eight matches, all in March.

Ball State struggled to find a replacement for Cliff Morrison. Players lower in the singles line-up had to move up a spot in his absence.

Ball State did not get a singles victory in spots three through six this weekend Morrison did not make the trip with knee injuries, but coach Bill Richards said he should be ready by April. 

Sophomore Dalton Albertin provided a bright stop for Ball State, going 2-1 at No. 1 singles. Junior Zane Smith went 2-1 at No. 2 singles, moving up a spot to replace Morrison.

Ball State will play its first home match since February 20 when Notre Dame comes to Muncie Saturday.
