BASEBALL: Starting pitchers - Ball State vs. Ohio

Bowling in search of second win

Junior Cal Bowling (1-1, 3.96 ERA) will get the start for Ball State in its Mid-American Conference opener against Ohio this afternoon.

The 6-foot-2 right-hander will be making his sixth start of the season, in search of his second victory.

Bowling has been Ball State's most consistent starting pitcher this season, and will try to bounce back following a rough outing on March 18, versus Belmont when he lasted just four innings, allowing five runs-all earned, on six hits, while walking five and fanning two.

Bowling looks to minimize the damage against him versus the Bobcats this afternoon. Opponents haven't had any trouble getting to Bowling so far this season, as they are batting .310 against him. Bowling has surrendered 31 hits, including a home run, a triple and two doubles.

The Bobcats will counter with right-handed sophomore Seth Streich (0-1, 6.00 ERA), who will be making his sixth start of the season in search for his first win. Streich leads the Bobcats with 25 strikeouts and averages a strikeout per inning this season.

Despite whiffing a large number of hitters, opponents have had success against Streich. He's allowed 18 runs –all earned and has been tagged for nine doubles and two home runs on the season. Opposing teams are hitting .243 off him.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Ball Diamond.
