FOOTBALL: Ball State to play Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium

Game site moved from Scheumann Stadium to Indianapolis

Ball State will play its first football game of the 2011 season on Sept. 3 against Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Athletic Director Tom Collins said the school has signed its part of the contract to move the game from Scheumann Stadium to Lucas Oil. The only pending part of the deal is the officials at Lucas Oil signing their part of the contract.

Ball State will still be the designated home team.

Collins said three factors helped him decide to have the game moved to Lucas Oil: playing in an NFL stadium, the school alumni base in the city and money.

Tickets to the game will cost $40. Collins said his goal is to sell 40,000 tickets to the game.

If the goal is reached, Ball State will earn $700,000 more than what a sold-out game at Scheumann Stadium could generate for the game.

Ball State students will still be allowed into the game for free, just as if the game was held at Scheumann Stadium. Collins said there is progress being made to provide buses so students can attend the game without having to drive their own vehicles.
