WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING: Ball State travels to Buffalo

Cardinals look to keep momentum after win at Butler

The Ball State women's swimming and diving schedule reads like a gauntlet: at Eastern Michigan, at Michigan State, at EMU again for an invitational, at home vs. Miami, at Buffalo, and a Feb. 5 date at Notre Dame.

To further put that in perspective, Michigan State has spent time in collegeswimming.com's Division 1 Top 25, Notre Dame is currently ranked 29th, Miami began the season as the top-ranked mid-major, and EMU was ranked 22nd in the mid-major poll.

The Cardinals travel to Buffalo, NY this weekend to take on the Bulls in a dual meet.

Along with Eastern Michigan and Miami, Buffalo is another top Mid-American Conference squad and have turned in times similar to those of the Cardinals.

Ball State also deserves to be included in the conversation of elite MAC teams, as they've already beaten Eastern Michigan and lost to Miami by one one-hundredth of a second.

The Cardinals have posted 35 top-20 times in the MAC this year – Buffalo has 29 – and saw a surge last week from freshman Haley Richter.

Richter posted her season-best time in the 200-yard backstroke last weekend against Miami, turning in a time of 2:06.45.

Richter is one of the Cardinals' most versatile swimmers, ranking 19th in the MAC in the 100 backstroke, 18th in the 200 backstroke, ninth in the 100 butterfly, and 11th in the 200 IM.

An area where the Cardinals may have a decided advantage is diving.

Four different Cardinal divers have posted top-20 scores in either three-meter or one-meter events, led by juniors Whitney Adams and Christiana Riordan. Adams has posted the fifth-best score on the three-meter board, while Riordan has turned in the tenth-best score in the one-meter event.

The Bulls have only one diver, freshman Ava Giachino, who has turned in any top-20 scores.

The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
