FOOTBALL: Ball State trails Akron after first quarter

Three turnovers in the first 10 minutes by Ball State allowed Akron to take a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.

Quarterback Patrick Nicely threw just his fourth touchdown pass of the season, finding wide receiver Jalil Carter on a slant route six minutes into the game. The Zips touchdown came on their drive following a fumble by running back Cory Sykes.

The Cardinals had four possessions in the game, but only one ended with a punt.

Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning was intercepted twice in the quarter, going 3-of-7 for 33 yards.
