FOOTBALL: Ball State squeaks out 37-30 victory in double overtime

It wasn't pretty. It wasn't how Stan Parrish would have written the script. It was often uncomfortable to watch.

But it was just what Ball State needed, a 37-30 victory in double overtime Saturday against Akron.

The game appeared to be over after the first overtime as the Cardinals faced a fourth-and-nine from the 24. But Keith Wenning's pass bounced off a Zips defender into the hands of wide receiver Jack Tomlinson, who fell into the end zone for his third touchdown of the day.

Ball State scored on its possession in the second overtime when Wenning found a wide-open David Schneider for a 19-yard touchdown despite getting hammered on the play.

Safety Josh Howard ended the game in the second overtime with an interception.
