FOOTBALL: Toledo takes lead in third quarter

TOLEDO, Ohio – It took just 10 seconds in the third quarter for Toledo to take the lead from Ball State.

The Rockets started the second half with a 51-yard kickoff return that might have gone for a touchdown if not for a tackle by kicker Ian McGarvey. But he didn't save the Cardinals for long. Running back Adonis Thomas ran for a 35-yard touchdown on the next play, and Toledo's 24-17 lead would stand for the rest of the quarter.

Ball State's offense continued to struggle, and has gained just 131 yards since the first quarter. Keith Wenning threw his second interception of the game, but the Rockets were unable to make him pay for the mistake.

MiQuale Lewis leads the Cardinals with 81 rushing yards, his highest total of the season. He also fumbled right before crossing the goal line and the ball rolled through the end zone for a touchback, denying Ball State a chance to tie the game.
