FOOTBALL: Parrish says senior linebacker deserves praise as well

Much of the attention Ball State's linebackers have gotten this season has gone to the talented sophomore duo of Travis Freeman and Tony Martin.

Stan Parrish said senior Davyd Jones deserves praise for his play as well. In Ball State's 31-17 victory at Central Michigan on Saturday, Jones helped cover wide receiver Cody Wilson and made a season-high seven tackles.

"Davyd quietly, because Travis and Tony get all the accolades, played his best game for us," Parrish said. "He played great on special teams, too."

Parrish said Jones, who is a captain, has bought into the team philosophy rather than individual accomplishment.

"It's not about Davyd," Parrish said. "It's about his contributions to our group."

Jones is tied for fifth on the Cardinals with 23 tackles. Last season, he led the team with 100.

Upcoming festivities

Ball State's game at Kent State on Oct. 30 will be Josh Cribbs Day. The Golden Flashes will hold a news conference Tuesday to discuss events for the celebration.

Cribbs played quarterback for the Golden Flashes from 2001 to 2005 and holds school records in total offense, passing yards and total touchdowns, among others. He is a two-time Pro Bowl kick returner for the Cleveland Browns.

Time change

Ball State announced the start time for the Nov. 20 game against Northern Illinois has been moved to noon. The game had been scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff. No reason for the switch was given.
