SOCCER: Ball State ready for final tune up before MAC play

Coach says Cardinals need to keep composure

The Ball State soccer team takes on Duquesne on the road in their final nonconference match of the season Saturday.

A three-game winning streak is on the line for the Cardinals in the first meeting between the two schools.

Following their previous winning streak earlier in the year, Ball State lost two straight games. The team can't afford to lose their composure with high aspirations for the conference season, coach Craig Roberts said.

"The girls need to become more composed when they are winning games," he said. "We hope to be in the driver's seat during games so we need to stay composed and consistent for 90 minutes."

Duquesne boasts a record of 3-3-1 as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Ball State beat fellow A-10 member Xavier for their first win of the season.

This matchup will be a Mid-American Conference caliber test for Ball State after Duquesne beat Mid-American Conference foe Buffalo earlier in the year.

After being picked to finish at the bottom of the MAC standings at the beginning of the year, the Cardinals record of 5-2 ties Miami of Ohio for the best start by any of the conference teams.

"Being picked as the underdog is fine with me," senior defender Danielle Rogers said. "I like upsetting teams picked to win. Everyone believes and so does Craig that we have we are [the favorite] and so does Craig. I think we have a pretty good shot at it [conference]."
