FOOTBALL: Purdue holds off Ball State in West Lafayette

Cardinals drop to 1-2

WEST LAFAYETTE – A 76-yard touchdown pass that ricocheted through a crowd of players sealed a victory for Purdue on Saturday.

Purdue defeated Ball State 24-13 after scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter to take control of the game.

Kelly Page threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Connor Ryan to cut the deficit to 11 points, but it was too late.

The Cardinals fall to 1-2 on the season.

Quarterback Keith Wenning took a big hit from Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan in the fourth quarter and did not return to the game. He had his first career start, going 11 of 21 for 89 yards and two interceptions.

Page was 2 of 2 for 17 yards and a touchdown in limited action. He also ran the ball five times for 36 yards.

Eric Williams led the Cardinals in rushing with 62 yards on 10 carries. MiQuale Lewis ran for his first touchdown of the year, tying him for second on Ball State's all-time list.

Safety Sean Baker also moved up an all-time list, snagging his 13th career interception. He is tied for third in program history.
