FOOTBALL: Liberty leads Ball State by 11 at half time

Cardinals will need a rally to avoid upset

The second quarter continued to look bleak for Ball State as it was unable to score on Liberty and went into the locker room trailing 14-3.

The Cardinals had a good scoring chance early in the quarter, once again getting into the red zone. But once there the drive stalled and Stan Parrish called for Ball State to go for it. MiQuale Lewis was dropped for a four-yard loss, turning the ball over.

The drive also included a potential touchdown pass, but Kelly Page overthrew wide receiver Briggs Orsbon at the five-yard line. It was the second potential touchdown pass of the night that Page put a little too much heat on, causing an incompletion.

Ball State's defense was able to stop Liberty's offense, limiting the visitors to 56 yards of offense.

Middle linebacker Travis Freeman had a sack and outside linebacker Tony Martin also almost came up with an interception, but settled for a pass breakup.

Running back Cory Sykes leads the Cardinals with 32 rushing yards. Page is 5-for-10 for 64 yards.

Liberty has been led by its talented quarterback, Mike Brown. The junior is 12-for-19 for 142 yards and a touchdown. He also leads the team in rushing with 36 yards.
