The Ball State University track and field team has continued to build some momentum heading into the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships.
The Cardinals claimed four first-place finishes and had 15 top-five showings Saturday at the Pacesetter Invitational hosted by Indiana State University.
Leading the way for Ball State was senior Jenna Schmitmeyer, who for the second straight week not only won the 400-meter hurdles, but set a career-best time. Schmitmeyer finished in 1:01.14, the third-best time in the MAC this season.
Ball State also took the top two spots in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Renyae Owsley took first place with a career-best 56.26, while teammate Judah Smith, a freshman, also logged a career-low 56.26 to finish in second place.
Sophomore Thekla Lorenz and senior Sarah Kehe rounded out the Cardinals' first-place winners on the day. Lorenz's 18-10 in the long jump was tops in the field, while Kehe finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The Cardinals now have nearly two weeks to prepare for the MAC Championships, which are hosted by the University at Buffalo May 13-15.
