The women's golf team today travels Bloomington, Ind., to compete in the two-day Indiana University Invitational.
In preparation of the tournament, the Cardinals recently wrapped up three qualifying rounds where they finished in the top five as well as used the beginning of the week to practice before today's big tournament.
Coming off another sixth-place finish, coach Katherine Mowat said how a team plays is relative to the field and sometimes the finish is great and sometimes it's not so good at all.
Junior Rachael Pruett felt the three sixth-place finishes for Ball State will give them the motivation to work hard over the next week-and-a-half after the IU tournament to focus on the Mid-American Conference tournament.
"The IU and MAC are two of our biggest tournaments this season," Pruett said.
Ball State hasn't played in the IU tournament in five years. Joining the Cardinals and the host Hoosiers in the tournament are Colorado, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana State, Iowa State, Iowa, Lipscomb, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri State, Oakland and Western Michigan.
The IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind., will play to a par 72 and the teams will compete at 6,142 yards.
"Very tight off the tee, it's crucial to hit the drags down the middle of the fairway and the greens are in great shape," Mowat said.
Ball State is led this season by junior Brittany Kelly. She has a team best 75.36 scoring average and has tallied six top-10 finishes this year.
Kristtini Cain owns a 78.24 average and has two top-10s for the Cardinals.
Rachael Pruett owns a 78.28 average, while the team's lone senior, Kirsty O'Connor, has a 79.28 average on the year.
