For the second time this month, the Ball State University men's golf team will try to knock off state rival Indiana University at the Hoosiers' own invitational.
The Cardinals travel to Carmel, Ind., today to participate in the Crooked Stick Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Indiana, which was the only team ahead of Ball State in the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington on April 4.
Ball State hopes for a strong performance after taking a step back in last week's Missouri Intercollegiate. The Cardinals placed eighth as a team out of 15 schools and didn't have an individual crack the top 15. Freshman Tony Lazzara was Ball State's top performer, tying for 20th place.
Today, Lazzara, a Carmel native, will get a chance to play on his home course. He will be joined in the Ball State lineup by Eric Steger, Anthony Novak, Joe Gasser and Ross Cosat, while Eric Skillman will participate as an individual.
Other than Indiana, Butler University, Purdue University and IUPUI will be the state schools participating in the 12-team event that is scheduled for 9 a.m. shotgun starts today and Tuesday.
