The Ball State University women's golf team remains confident after a Spring Break that included multiple school records and placing among the nation's best teams.
During the Spring Break tour, the team set three records, including a school-record first-round total of 289 in the UNLV Invitational.
Individually, junior Brittany Kelly set a 54-hole school record with a score of 215 en route to a third-place finish in the UNLV Invitational. She broke the previous record by six strokes.
"We exceeded expectations, and it turned out better than we thought," coach Katherine Mowat said. "We played good all week."
Kelly, who leads Ball State with a 75.05 average, leads the Cardinals into today's first day of the John Kirk Intercollegiate Tournament.
Mowat said that simply getting an invite to the tournament in Stockbridge, Ga., was an honor. Host Georgia State University, Arkansas State University, University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Xavier University are among the teams that will be competing in the tournament.
