SOFTBALL: Ball State sweeps weekly MAC awards

Milian, Carpenter highlight CardinalsGÇÖ 5-0 week

Both experience and inexperience highlighted an undefeated week for the Ball State University softball team.

Senior pitcher Elizabeth Milian and freshman outfielder Amanda Carpenter led the Cardinals to a 5-0 record in last week's Spring Break trip to Clearwater, Fla.. as both were responsible for sweeping the Mid-American Conference Weekly Awards, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

For the third time this season, Milian was named the MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week. Milian (11-1) posted three of Ball State's five wins last week over Radford University, Stony Brook University and Middle Tennessee State University.

In those three wins — all complete games — Milian combined to allow just two earned runs and struck out 27 batters.

Carpenter, meanwhile, earned her first career MAC West Player of the Week Award. Carpenter batted .412 with a slugging percentage of .824 as she had six runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases on the week. Against Temple University and Stony Brook on March 13, Carpenter combined to go 5-for-6 at the plate with one homerun, one triple and two runs.

The Cardinals (15-5) return to action Friday in the DeMarini Invitational in Columbia, Miss., as they take on the No. 3 University of Missouri (16-2) and Northwestern University (9-10), which received one vote in this week's ESPN.com/USA Today Poll.
