MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards win 1st match of season at Carthage

Ball State loses first set before sweeping the rest to improve to 1-1

The No. 13 Ball State University men's volleyball team captured its first victory of the year at Carthage College Saturday night.

The Cardinals dropped the first game 30-22, but rallied to win their next three 30-24, 31-29, 30-26. With the loss, Carthage, the No. 9 Division III team in the country, falls to 1-2. Ball State moves to 1-1 on the season after dropping its first match to Loyola University on Friday.

Ball State was led by its experience in the middle. Juniors J.D. Gasparovic (16 kills, .500 hitting percentage) and Anders Nelson (13, .550) led the Cardinals' offense. On defense, Billy Ebel had a match-high 15 digs, while Nelson had eight blocks.

Ball State travels to the Milwaukee School of Engineering today for a 4 p.m. start.
