MEN'S SWIMMING: Ball State set to take on No. 19 Purdue

Cards look to build off win at Ball State Relay Invitational

After a convincing win at the Ball State Relay Invitational last weekend to open the season, Ball State University men's swimming team faces No. 19 Purdue University on Saturday.

"Purdue is on a different level than us competitively," said coach Bob Thomas. "But that doesn't mean it will stop our guys from doing their best."

Although playing a ranked team in the nation might intimidate some teams, Thomas sees it as an opportunity to get better and bring out the best in the swimmers.

Thomas was pleased with his team's performance last weekend, attributing the success to their work over Winter Break.

"We swam over six miles every day," he said, "To put that into perspective, it is the equivalent of a runner running a marathon every day." Motivation to do well during training was not lacking, even in the most rigorous of conditions. Thomas says that the seniors kept the intensity up throughout the winter.

"We worked really hard, and the seniors were mentioning how we needed to keep putting forth the effort." He said. "We hung in there and had a successful training period, and now the bulk of that is behind us."
