MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cardinals lose on road to No. 19 Purdue

Ball State duo finishes 1-2 in 50-freestyle

Facing one of the best teams in the nation Friday, the Ball State University men's swimming and diving team suffered a 177-65 loss to No. 19 Purdue University.

The Cardinals had their best performance in the 50-freestyle, with Austin Laska (21.22) and Ben Battjes (21.46) finishing in first and second, respectively. Battjes also finished third in the 100 freestyle with a 47.75. Chris Krupa also won an event, beating out the competition in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.38.

The Ball State 200-freestyle relay team kept the race close with the Boilermakers, losing by less than a second to Purdue's top squad in the event. Battjes, Ryan Misener, Devon Hill, and Laska combined for a time of 1:25.06.

Coach Bob Thomas was unavailable for comment Friday night.

Continuing its busy weekend, Ball State travels to Ypsilanti, Mich., to take on Eastern Michigan University Saturday. After that match, the Cardinals will go to Fishers, Ind., to compete Sunday against Butler University, Eastern Illinois University, Youngstown State University, and Valparaiso University.
