Kicker Ian McGarvey and wide receiver Briggs Orsbon were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team on Tuesday.
It is McGarvey's second year on the team, which is based on both academics and performance on the field. Athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of their team's games and have at least a 3.2 GPA.
A psychology major, McGarvey has a 3.54 and Orsbon has a perfect 4.0 in business.
McGarvey ranked ninth in the nation in field goals per game and set the school record with 81 consecutive extra points made. He also kicked a pair of 48-yard field goals, which set his career long.
Orsbon led the Cardinals with 51 receptions and 461 receiving yards. The sophomore made the team in his first chance, as first-year students are not eligible.
Center Kreg Hunter and H-back Andy Puthoff were named as honorable mentions. Hunter is an industrial technology and construction management major with a 3.40 GPA. Puthoff has a 3.41 GPA as a physical education major.
Central Michigan University had the most players honored with seven, including MAC Offensive Player of the Year Dan LeFevour. The quarterback was named to the team for the fourth time in his career and graduated with a 3.58 GPA in interpersonal communication.
Ball State was one of 11 schools with at least two players on the team. Only Eastern Michigan University and the University at Buffalo had just one player honored.
