WOMEN'S GOLF: Cards fail to repeat at Hawkeye Invitational

The Ball State University women's golf team failed to defend its title of champion at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate Tournament by finishing in 7th place Sunday.

Missouri State University finished in 1st place with a 914 and the University of Illinois finished in 2nd place with a 918.

The third round was where the team failed to pull through and win the tournament for the second year in a row.

"We wanted to defend our title from last year but were unable to win and didn't end where we wanted to," coach Katherine Mowat said.

Katie Windlan and Brittany Kelly switched roles during the Hawkeye Intercollegiate over the weekend. Windlan took the role of top player for the team carding a 233, tying for 13th place. Kelly finished in 18th place with a 235.

Kristtini Cain and Rachael Pruett tied for 39th place with a score of 241 while Kirsty O'Connor tied for 43rd place carding a 242. Individual player Autumn Duke carded a 249, tying for 58th place.

"Katie Windlan played awesome and finished with her best score of the year and played very very well," Mowat said.

After playing in their last tournament of the fall season, the team is taking time off to catch up on rest and schoolwork after coming off the road from Iowa.

Mowat said preparation for the spring season will include conditioning, training and going to the golf course to hit a few balls.

"We learned a lot about ourselves and the team found areas they needed to work on throughout the season," Mowat said.

Winning the MAC Preview was the highlight for the women's golf team's fall season and has left them motivated for the spring season.
