SOCCER: Cards to end season at Miami

Ball State failed to make MAC Tournament this season

Ending the season on a high note will be a key focus for the Ball State University soccer team as it finishes the regular season Thursday afternoon at Miami University.

The Cardinals, who have been eliminated from contention for the Mid-American Conference tournament, will play their last match of the season against the RedHawks (9-7-1, 5-4-1 MAC), and coach Michael Lovett said a win is much-needed.

"It is so important for us to win Thursday," Lovett said. "We have not won since we played Bowling Green and we need a win."

Lovett said even though his team will not be playing in the MAC tournament, the focus is still to get a win against Miami.

"We have been laid back at practice this week, but we all want the win," Lovett said. "Just because we aren't playing in the tournament does not mean we won't show up and play."

Ball State (4-12-1) will be looking to get its third win in the MAC to close out its season by ending a seven-game winless streak. The Cardinals ended their six-game losing streak on Sunday with a 1-1 tie against Western Michigan University.
