On Tuesday, the Student Government Association President Nick Wilkey sent out his first email to the student body discussing all the latest updates with SGA.
Sending a progress report email was one the platform points the executive slate had.
“Sending an email to 20,000 students was nerve wrecking but I enjoyed and got responses back,” Wilkey said.
He said people appreciated his email and responded with ideas.
Since students receive a high volume of emails every day, Wilkey is a little worried that students may not read it. However he said it would be beneficial if he could get reactions from even just a couple of students.
One of the items he hopes people read is the student leader spotlight of the month. This month ‘s leader is Jake Griffin who is the president of Active Minds, an organization that brings awareness of mental health issues to college campuses.
“I wanted people to see other students and hear what they have to say,” Wilkey said.
Aside from the email update, student senate is almost full with only one seat in the off campus caucus is open.
Vice president Bryan Kubel said students seem more motivated this year.
“I feel like there is a special spark or something,” he said, “I think there is something different in this year’s senate than in years past.”
Once the new senators go through training sessions next week, Kubel predicts productivity will increase even more.
