A new month means new events at Cornerstone Center for the Arts, and with Halloween coming up, events like Son of Scarevania Haunted House are offered to give visitors a thrill.

Here is a look at some of the workshops, events and opportunities to learn about the arts and culture at Cornerstone this October:

Kids & Paints

Cornerstone is offering children 7 years and up a chance to paint a fall-themed picture, have fun and make memories on Friday from 6-7:30 p.m. Registration costs $25, but no prior registration is required.

Monthly Dance Club

The Monthly Dance club will meet at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7 and gives guests a chance to show off their moves. Registration costs $12 per person and $10 per student, but no preregistration is necessary to attend. For the first hour of the event, instruction on how to dance a variety of different styles — including swing, ballroom, salsa or tango — will be lead by David Fenning. After that, the open dancing begins and dancers can practice what they learned or even add their own style.

Fall Break Arts Camp

Students ages 6 to 14 are invited to enjoy their fall break by staying active and creative at Cornerstone from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 through Oct. 12. Students will participate in visual arts, theater, dance, fitness and many more programs throughout the camp. Registration of one child costs $100, but families registering multiple children pay $75 per child after paying the original price for the first child. Some financial aid is also available for families that qualify.

Pints & Paints

The Fickle Peach, located in downtown Muncie at 117 E. Charles St., is partnering with Cornerstone to offer participants two hours of painting and a drink. The workshop is available to anyone 21 and older and registration costs $25.

Son of Scarevania Haunted House

Starting 8 p.m. Oct. 6, the Prime Trust Federal Credit Union Son of Scarevania Haunted Attraction will return to the third floor of cornerstone. The haunted maze, designed for mature audiences, is spread throughout the floor and is open until midnight every Friday and Saturday of October. Tickets are on sale at the door for $12 or $20 for duals ticket to both the Cornerstone and Granville Avenue location of Son of Scarevania.

The Art of Cartography

Open to anyone in ninth grade or older, the Art of Cartography will view maps created by Ball State University and Burris School students art created by Ball State University. The program is free and takes place on Oct. 17

Bad Art Night

Muncie Public Library and Cornerstone are partnering to offer the community the chance to create terrible masterpieces at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at Cornerstone. Guests will be able to choose from a collection of arts and crafts supplies to create a project so awful it deserves a prize. While this event is free, Cornerstone encourages attendees to donate $5 to help pay for supplies.

Coffee & Paints

No matter their skill, everyone from fourth graders to adults is encouraged to be an artist at the Coffee & Paints event at 10 a.m. Oct. 21. Guests can enjoy coffee as they relax and paint a fall-themed picture. Participating in this event costs $25 per person.
