Sitting at 2-5 with its back against the wall, Ball State (2-5, 1-2) will be playing Central Michigan (3-4, 2-1) on Oct. 24.
In the midst of Ball State football's second-longest losing streak this decade, head coach Pete Lembo continues to look for answers, starting with the team's leaders.
Late in the fourth quarter, Ball State's defense was attempting to get Georgia State off the field, then the proverbial backbreaker happened. Nick Arbuckle, the Panthers' quarterback, hit Donovan Harden for a 68-yard gain, bringing the Panthers down to the 1-yard line. Arbuckle snuck it in for a touchdown soon after, which led to the Cardinals' 31-19 loss.

The Cardinals have been battling the injury bug since the beginning of the season. Through the midway point, it remains a constant issue.

Late in the first quarter, Ball State was gifted with great field position after Toledo’s punt was partially blocked. The Cardinals were driving in Rockets’ territory when quarterback Riley Neal fumbled on a read option run with 3:17 left in the first quarter. At the time, both teams were scoreless, but after this turnover Toledo went on to take over the game.
Practice has begun for the Ball State men's basketball team, and it's clear there is one part of the game it is focused on improving.
Ball State's strong-suit this year on offense has been the running game, but in the Oct. 3 Homecoming matchup, it was quite the opposite.
Heading into this week's Homecoming game, the Daily News is debuting a new weekly piece in which we speak with the opposing team's beat writer. Toledo, a team right outside the top 25 in the polls (No. 26), looks to come into Muncie to spoil Ball State's Homecoming.

After the Ball State football team missed several opportunities on offense throughout the first half, Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson gave Ball State another chance with a fumble right before halftime. In the first half alone, Thorson had two fumbles and threw a deep pass that was easily picked off by Tyree Holder.
