History Of: Joker

(10/31/19 6:26pm)

Satisfying villains are hard to come by these days. Their motivations are often shallow (fame, fortune, power, influence, etc.) and how they carry out their plans for world domination lack genuine creativity. A villain becomes noteworthy when they can effectively torment the hero of their story, making them question their own morals and values by pushing them to their physical limits. When combined with a desire to turn the populous against their guiding light, this outlaw can tear down the pillars of their environment without lifting a finger.

“IT Chapter 2” is a memory I wish I could forget

(09/15/19 3:41am)

At the time of its original release, IT (1990) became one of  the most famous adaptations of a Stephen King literary property. Though  the two-part television mini-series may not have had the positive  critical reception like Carrie, Stand by Me or Misery,  it was memorable for a different reason. The portrayal of the titular  villain, Pennywise the clown by Tim Curry, was not terrifying, but the  hilarity that he weaved into every mannerism and piece of dialogue made  it one of his most famous performances. The dreadful writing, subpar  special effects and awful acting by the rest of the cast kept the  potential of this supernatural horror trapped in the 20th century.

The world of video games has gone through a plethora of innovation and evolution. The jump from pixels to polygons, the advent of online play, and all the warfare between console and pc loyalists are just a few examples. All of these stories and more have only added to the history of the most expressive and interactive entertainment medium the world has ever known. When looking back on the most impactful moments in gaming that have come during my lifetime, I can not help but think of Minecraft. The memories and hours spent building my own world have impacted me in more ways than I may ever realize. As we pass over the first 10 years of this monumental game, it seems best that I reflect on my own experiences that made this game so special to me and millions of others across the world.

‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ delivers on its thesis for terror

(08/21/19 8:30pm)

The horror genre has been experiencing a bit of a shake up in the cinema lately. From the traditional October release calendar being flipped on its head to the creation of cinematic universes such as The Conjuring, this decade has seen a vast array of projects try to crack those sale figures and box office records. Of course, when it comes to adaptations and remakes, no section of Hollywood is safe; however, it seems this category of frightful films has garnered a boost while plenty of other series encountered stagnation.

‘The Curse of La Llorona’ has been cursed to a life of mediocrity

(05/07/19 8:13pm)

In the beautiful countryside of Mexico, there once lived a gorgeous  woman named Maria. She fell for a rich ranchero, married the man she  loved and had two wonderful kids. Following a rough patch in their  marriage where her husband placed more attention on his children than  his wife, Maria witnessed her husband in the arms of a younger beauty.  In an fit of furious revenge, Maria drowned her two sons in a nearby  river. After she came to her senses and realized the extent of her  actions, she threw herself into those very same waters. That night,  villagers saw a figure sobbing along the banks of the river, wearing  Maria’s burial clothes and crying for the loss of her children. Today,  the weeping woman is said to comb the earth in search of misbehaving  children, luring them to bodies of water after dark to punish them for  their misdeeds.
