CLEVELAND – The last time Nyla Hampton and Brady Sallee were in Cleveland, Ohio, at the same time, they were competing against one another. One was wearing the red and white of Ball State, shouting instructions to the Cardinals on the sideline as the other was matched up against said Cardinals in the brown and orange of Bowling Green.

When Ben Hendriks walked onto the court at Worthen Arena for tipoff against Kent State, it appeared as if he was fully healthy. When he walked into the post-game press conference after playing his most minutes in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play in a 76-69 victory, he looked like he had just been put through the ringer.

After Eastern Michigan’s 58-56 win against Ball State Saturday, Feb. 24, the court at Worthen Arena looked like a Jihad/Sharpe family reunion. Numerous small children threw up basketballs toward the hoop as Basheer Jihad watched on, standing at 6-feet, 9-inches tall in his all-red Ball State men’s basketball uniform.

Ball State men’s basketball head coach Michael Lewis said after the Cardinals’ 21-point loss to Miami (OH) Feb. 16, conversations within the program were focused on using that defeat for motivation. With just six games left on the slate heading into the Feb. 20th game against Northern Illinois and sitting at ninth place in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) standings, Lewis assured his squad to control what they can control as the season becomes do or die.

OXFORD, Ohio– After a 21-point loss, one could have expected a fired up Michael Lewis when he sat down in a conference room deep in the annals of Millet Hall. Ball State men’s basketball’s head coach certainly wasn’t happy after a 80-59 defeat at the hands of Miami (OH), but he never raised his voice when recalling the 40 minutes that just passed.

If Ball State men’s basketball’s loss to Ohio (13-10, 7-4 MAC) had to be summed up in one sequence, it came with about eight minutes left in the 2nd half. Although there were still eight lead changes left before the Bobcats emerged victorious in overtime, a series of events between Jalin Anderson and Michael Lewis defined the contest.

Michael Lewis made it plain and simple as soon as he sat down for his post game comments; he said Bowling Green was better than Ball State, not just during the 40 minutes of gameplay that had just passed, but as a whole.
