For many Ball State alumni, losing touch with classmates after college isn’t unusual. But for Mark Allen Michaels, this wasn’t the case.

At 3:48 p.m. the parking lot of White River Plaza was fairly empty except for a few pop-up tents. Venders bustled about, working to set up their stands in time for the evening festivities at the Muncie Makers Market to begin on Saturday, Sept. 1.

That group is the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and despite those early morning runs, cadet Nic Egierski wants everyone to know that he’s just like everyone else.
