The Muncie Children’s Museum (MCM) is prepared to unveil two new additions that aim to teach children about Muncie’s local train stations and rivers set to open Feb. 1. A water table designed to teach about rivers is still under construction.

History once again came full-circle, as Jan. 20 marked the annual Midwest Antique Fruit Jar and Bottle Club Convention. Collectors from all across the country loaded their prized possessions and token finds to display and sell in Muncie, Indiana. The Ball Mason Jar was patented in 1884 by the Ball Brothers, 34 years before they founded Ball State University.

It was a bitterly cold Monday morning in January when several Muncie community members and students bundled up, braved a public safety advisory, negative temperatures and an Indiana windchill of -10, and gathered together for an honorary breakfast in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, warmed by his passionate efforts for unity and equality.

Muncie’s Minnetrista Museums and Gardens hosted its annual Enchanted Luminaria Walk to kick off the holiday season Dec. 1. Despite the mucky weather, a drizzling rain and night fog were no match for the dazzling lights of the Minnetrista which illuminated the beaming expressions of the Munice community, ready to celebrate the holidays.

Editor's Note: Born two months premature, Katherine Hill was diagnosed with Congenital Diplegia Cerebral Palsy by age two and developed a stutter which has followed her from elementary school in varying degrees of severity. Now an adult and in the workforce, she’s been on the front end of some linguistic microaggressions that are worth correcting.

On Aug. 29, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb approved a nearly $30 million grant to enhance Indiana school security—The Secured School Safety Grant. The grant, funded through House Bill 1492, was enacted Sept. 1.
