Tuesday, July 2nd saw the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the whopping twenty-third installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film acts as the final film of the franchise’s Phase Three, and the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, which are the first three phases as a whole. In the film, Peter Parker and his classmates go on a trip to Europe, where Peter hopes to have a normal summer vacation after the climactic events of Avengers: Endgame. However, things quickly derail when Nick Fury and Maria Hill task Peter with working alongside Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio (an interdimensional warrior), in order to stop four Elemental creatures from destroying the planet.
As per the usual MCU standard, Far From Home has one mid-credits scene and one post-credits scene. Now, while the typical formula would be to have the mid-credits scene actually tease a future film and the post-credits scene played just for comedy, the ones present in Far From Home actually tease potential films while also using comedy.
Let’s start off with the mid-credits scene. Beginning shortly after Peter and his girlfriend MJ stopped web-swinging through the streets of New York City, they, along with numerous other people, find themselves watching a news report on a billboard. The report shows footage of Mysterio claiming that Peter—who had successfully defeated him in London at the end of the film—was actually the one attacking the city. The footage ends with Mysterio revealing that Peter is Spider-Man, with our hero comically about to swear as the credits roll.
Such a bombshell isn’t new to Peter Parker, as his identity being revealed to the world has happened in the comics, most notably during the 2006 Civil War event. During that, Peter willingly chose to reveal his identity, which had disastrous consequences for not only himself, but also his loved ones. That soon led to the infamous 2007 One More Day storyline, where Peter made a deal with a demon named Mephisto which allowed his identity to become a secret once more.

While it is impossible to go the Civil War route (as the storyline was already adapted into Captain America: Civil War back in 2016), and extremely unwise to go the One More Day route (Marvel fans would loathe this), it would be more practical to have this lead into the introduction of Kraven the Hunter in the next Spider-Man film. In the comics, Kraven is a hunter that seeks to track down and kill Spider-Man in order to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world. For the MCU, the next film could have Peter be a fugitive on the run, with Kraven acting as a bounty hunter obsessed with finding him. Should the film want, it could potentially have a post-credits scene where it’s revealed that Kraven was hired by a major corporation—say Oscorp, an infamous company from the comics—which could help make things direr in Spider-Man’s future.
Now onto the post-credits scene. Fury and Hill are driving down an empty street, sitting in silence while listening to music. Things turn interesting when they transform into their real selves, the Skrulls known as Talos and Soren, respectively. (The alien couple was first introduced in the ‘Captain Marvel’ solo film, as refugees that were looking for a new home after the warlike Kree Empire destroyed their old one). Soren tells Talos that he needs to contact Fury and tell him about what happened with Peter and Mysterio, and after some light banter, the latter relents. The scene cuts to Fury, who received Talos’ message. In yet another reveal, Fury walks into the hangar bay of a large spaceship, visibly tired, and tells its inhabitants that there is work that needs to be done.
The biggest concept that this post-credit scene could potentially hint at is the establishment of SWORD (Sentient World Observation and Response Department). In the comics, SWORD is an intelligence agency dedicated to protecting the Earth from alien threats. Due to this, the organization essentially acts as the interplanetary version of SHIELD (Strategic Homeland, Intervention, and Logistics Division), which dealt with more Earth-based problems. Since Nick Fury is at the forefront of his potential development, it is possible that he could be developing SWORD as not only a replacement for SHIELD (which is effectively defunct at this point within the MCU), but also as a way to create a new team of heroes to defend the Earth (the Avengers are also defunct at this point).
If this happens, it is possible that Captain Marvel might be the leader of this new team, as she has spent the past several decades in space, protecting planets that have been affected by the Kree-Skrull War. Not only that, but her friendship with Fury may also aid matters as well. Last but not least, the inclusion of SWORD within the MCU can help introduce a plethora of space-based characters into the universe, such as Richard Rider (a hero that calls himself Nova), and Galactus (a gigantic, planet-devouring alien).
It was hard to picture Spider-Man: Far From Home having such important post-credits scenes, especially since this is on a much smaller scale when compared to Avengers: Endgame. Alas, here we are, with two scenes that could push the Marvel Cinematic Universe into new and fascinating directions.

When you hear “educational music” it probably brings you back to your kindergarten classroom. Sitting on the bright colored carpet, looking up at the teacher who’s teaching your class the latest color song.
As you got older, these songs started to seem “childish." Music is supposed to entertain people, not teach them. However, there are a few songs that slip in there and teach people important life lessons. Take one of my favorite genres, country. Sure, a lot of the more “mainstream” songs are about whiskey, love, and tractors but you do get some hidden gems that actually teach listeners something. Luke Comb’s song, “When It Rains It Pours,” basically teaches its listeners that, even though something bad might happen to you, it might have happened for a reason. John Rich’s song, “Shut Up About Politics,” is basically just that. He literally sings that even though he agrees with one political parties views, it’s still nothing but a “big pile of dirty tricks.” We can all still get along if we just put down our weapons and “shut up about politics.”

However, there’s one band that centers their entire career around teaching their listeners, and the genre they’ve decided to do it in isn’t what you would think. Sabaton is a power metal band from Falun, Sweden and almost every song they produce centers around battles and acts of heroism in history. Even their name, sabaton, is a historical reference, referring to the foot armor of a knight.
The band has been around since 1999 and consist of the members Joakim Brodén (vocals and keyboard), Pär Sundström (bass), Chris Rörland (guitar), Hannes van Dahl (drums), and Tommy Johansson (guitar). Since their formation, the band has released eight studio albums with a ninth set to be released on July 19th. Seven out of the eight all have the same historical themes to them, with “Metalizer” being an exception. However, their songs illustrate battles fought throughout history as well as telling stories of war heroes the history books didn’t teach us.
I first discovered them when I was a sophomore in college. One of my friends introduced me to them one night and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m a huge history buff and sometimes find myself researching historical events in my free time. I’m also a sucker for good metal music, so Sabaton was the whole package for me. One of the first songs I remember listening to was about an American soldier whose grave I happened to see when I went to Arlington National Cemetery a few years back.
“To Hell and Back” is about the most decorated World War II veteran in America, Audie Murphy, who joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 after forging his birth year by a year. The song details his time in the war as well as incorporating a poem he had written about it later in his life. The poem, “Crosses Grow on Anzio” is referenced in the song:

The world of video games has gone through a plethora of innovation and evolution. The jump from pixels to polygons, the advent of online play, and all the warfare between console and pc loyalists are just a few examples. All of these stories and more have only added to the history of the most expressive and interactive entertainment medium the world has ever known. When looking back on the most impactful moments in gaming that have come during my lifetime, I can not help but think of Minecraft. The memories and hours spent building my own world have impacted me in more ways than I may ever realize. As we pass over the first 10 years of this monumental game, it seems best that I reflect on my own experiences that made this game so special to me and millions of others across the world.

I think we’ve reached a point in this summer’s blockbuster season where it seems like everything that was supposed to go right has completely backfired in some fashion. Whether it’s good movies disappointing financially (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Booksmart), remakes failing to hold audiences critically (Aladdin (2019), Shaft (2019)), or franchise tentpoles dropping dead on arrival (Dark Phoenix, Men In Black: International, etc.), it’s undeniable that in this post-Endgame power vacuum, nobody’s really been able to pick things back up. This is especially tough for families out there, for whom the only option short of dragging their kids into Ma is the critically reviled next entry in the Secret Life of Pets franchise. Surely, at some point this summer, someone’s got to pick up the ball again…right?

I am a huge sucker for pop music. My love for this genre may or may not have stemmed from my adolescent obsession with boybands, but that is beside the point. Regardless of how I came to love this style of music, I am always looking for fresh, new sounds on the pop scene, and Sizzy Rocket has delivered just that with her sophomore album, Grrrl.

Disclaimer: This article was written prior to Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct, therefore some of the predictions made might be a little outdated. There will be an addendum at the end of the feature reflecting on my thoughts towards DLC and how it affects my future predictions.
Arguably the biggest crossover event in all of gaming, many people are excited to see which of their favorite video game characters will make their way into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
While there are some people who get way too heated over which characters make it in or not, there’s something incredibly fun about trying to guess which beloved gaming icons will make the cut while also seeing what kind of unexpected fighters Sakurai and his team will throw at us next. With the first two DLC fighters of Smash Ultimate being candidates that nobody would’ve expected, Piranha Plant and Persona 5’s Joker, it seems like just about anything goes when it comes to who could be potential candidates.
With the possibilities being almost limitless, I thought it might be fun to throw my hat into the ring and share my predictions for the remaining four Smash DLC fighters before E3 comes along and horribly dates my predictions (Spoilers, it didn’t). I mean I was one of the few people rooting for Joker to get into Smash, so maybe luck will be on my side this time. Probably not, but hey this is just for fun and I’ll be happy with whatever we get as long as it’s not Fortnite guy.

Christmas for gamers comes twice a year. The obvious one is the day that jelly-bellied dude in the red overcoat comes rolling down your chimney to deliver all those new consoles, games, and accessories. The second instance happens over the span of just one week near the start of June - E3 2019. This year promised a plethora of information on previously announced games as well as surprise reveals of unexpected titles. However, major players like EA and Sony were missing from the traditional conference lineup bringing the total down to only five true presenters ranging from Xbox to Square Enix. Even with that noticeable divot in content shown off live across YouTube and Twitch, there were still plenty predictions to make and expectations to be dashed.
Here are the gifts I was wishing would show up under my E3 Christmas tree and what I actually received.

Ubisoft has always been the dark horse when it comes to E3. They never have the all-out cringe quality like EA or pulse-pounding reveals like Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo. The French developer always finds itself in the middle tiers of the E3 grading pool right beside Square Enix. This year, Ubisoft’s biggest reveal of the afternoon may have been dashed weeks before by leaks, but “Watch Dogs: Legion” and a multitude of additional titles packed the hour-long program. If only those additional announcements could have been about the games that seem to be stuck in development hell instead.

Bethesda is one of the biggest names in gaming. whether it be the legacy of past games, or the IP's they currently hold, it's hard to ignore anything that has the Bethesda name on it. Unfortunately for the gaming giant, this year that included a good amount of controversy.
After the muddy launch and post-launch response of Fallout 76, Bethesda had been in a good amount of hot water with fans. Normally, things like this get swept under the rug at conferences like E3. Bethesda decided to take the high road with this though, having both Pete Hines and Todd Howard himself address the issues they faced from the community. After a few jokes at their own expense, Bethesda launched in to their announcements.

As this generation of consoles winds down, the last couple E3’s are usually fairly tame. The big three companies will all hold their cards and wait to see how they can one-up their competition and capitalize on their mistakes. As such, with both Sony and EA stepping away from a formal conference this year, E3 feels surprisingly empty this year. It’s likely that next year will be the one where Sony announces the PS5, waiting until it’s ready to ship.
This year, however, there are plenty of rumors around Microsoft’s conference. With Halo Infinite and Gears of War 5 on the menu already, along with dozens of new titles they are planning to announce, there’s a lot of buzz. Banjo is said to be making a return somewhere, which is leading people to predict either him as Smash Ultimate DLC or in a remake/remaster of the original Banjo-Kazooie, all ignoring the possibility of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts 2. Most promising though, are the rumors around the Xbox Scarlett project, which is said to be their next-gen console. If Microsoft can nail a console announcement and have it out by the winter, it could be the head start Microsoft needs to trail blaze into the next generation. All eyes are on Microsoft to show something truly amazing.

In 2010, id Software, the video game studio behind classic first-person shooters such as Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein, released Rage. While the game received praise for its combat mechanics, it was criticized for being bland and uninspired with its story and setting, which took elements from games such as Fallout and did nothing new with them. As time went on, Rage was forgotten about and dismissed as a footnote in id Software’s history. Since then, the studio has undergone a resurgence of popularity with their reboots of Doom and Wolfenstein. With this newfound success, they decided to give Rage a sequel. Partnering with Avalanche Studios, the developers behind the vastly underrated Mad Max game, id Software developed Rage 2, which has proven to be a fun, chaotic experience.

Going into The Hustle, my main fear was that all the best parts would be shown in the trailer and I would leave feeling slightly disappointed. This seems to be an issue that’s becoming more and more frequent in comedy movies these days. The film stars Anne Hathaway, an actress I have adored since The Princess Diaries, and Rebel Wilson, known for her role as Fat Amy in the ever-popular Pitch Perfect series. Despite my doubts, I was curious to see how these very different actresses would work together and I made my way to the theater. I found myself pleasantly surprised, for the movie had some unexpected twists and turns, and thankfully, not all the comedic bits had been previewed in the trailer.

Back in 2014, veteran stuntmen David Leitch and Chad Stahelski collaborated together and directed John Wick. It starred Keanu Reeves as a deadly and highly skilled assassin who comes out of retirement to get revenge on the men who killed his dog. The film was both a financial and critical success and went on to become a sleeper hit. It revived Reeves’ career, as well as being the shot in the arm that the action genre needed. The film got a sequel in 2017, which was just as successful as its predecessor. Now, Reeves and Stahelski team up once again to bring the third movie in the John Wick series, to bring more adrenaline pumping, pulse-pounding action.

Often times, when it comes to pop stars who failed to reach the highest echelons of popularity after a short peak, it’s the material that is released after their peak that can be the most interesting displays. There are artists like Macklemore that continued to try and capture what brought them fame in the first place, Gotye seemed to drop off of the face of the earth with no new material ever to be released, and artists like Kesha who found the lack of pressure from the worlds expectation freeing and came out with their most daring, interesting material.
