Despite playing their first game in 10 days, the story of the Cardinals’ (7-10, 5-7 MAC) performance Tuesday night against Bowling Green (12-9, 8-7 MAC) was nothing but familiar to that of their losses against Miami (Ohio) and Buffalo these past few weeks.

Just more than a week ago, the Cardinals had lost their third straight game and scored just 42 points — their lowest in a regular season game since February 2018. Following the loss, head coach James Whitford emphasized he felt the team had struggled since the return of redshirt sophomore guard Jarron Coleman, who made his season debut Jan. 16 against Northern Illinois.

The team took a seven-point lead just under nine minutes into the game, but the Bulls began applying pressure as the first half progressed, taking a 33-32 lead into their locker room at halftime.

In just under 75 seconds, redshirt junior forward Zach Gunn sailed a trio of 3-pointers, and the Cardinals had a 14-7 lead against the RedHawks a little over five minutes and 30 seconds into the game. Momentum was on Ball State’s side after a pair of commanding wins over Bowling Green and Northern Illinois last week.

Like many teams across the country, Ball State Men’s Basketball (6-5, 4-2 MAC) has experienced its share of adversity this season, dealing with a number of injuries and absences since beginning in November. After suffering an injury Jan. 12 vs. Bowling Green, the Cardinals were without redshirt senior forward Brachen Hazen Saturday afternoon vs. the Huskies, who has appeared in all 10 games this season.
