The regular season is nearing its end, and No. 12 Ball State men’s volleyball (13-11, 6-4 MIVA) is in the midst of a battle for positioning in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament.
With tonight’s loss, Ball State fell to just 6-8 on the road, and four of those losses have come in straight sets. The team will finish its regular season with four matches at home, where it holds a 7-2 record.
In a battle of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association powerhouses, No. 11 Ball State (13-10, 6-3 MIVA) was plagued by attacking errors as it fell to No. 6 Loyola-Chicago (18-4, 8-1 MIVA) in straight sets (21-25, 20-25, 27-29).
With Loyola-Chicago, Ohio State and Ball State all in a logjam near the top of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association rankings, picking up wins this weekend could put Ball State in position to seize the top seed in the conference tournament.

No. 11 Ball State men’s volleyball needed five sets to defeat No. 15 Fort Wayne on the road in its last match. This time around, the Cardinals defeated the Mastodons in straight sets for their second win over their ranked Indiana rival this week.
It wasn’t pretty at times, but Ball State persevered for a grind-it-out victory over MIVA foe No. 15 Fort Wayne.

The Cardinals will get a break from their Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association schedule as they travel 2,000 miles west to California for four matches, three of which will come against ranked opponents.
