Voting official arrested after attacking reporter, candidate

A voter registration deputy for Delaware County has returned to work following an arrest on suspicion of attacking a reporter for The Star Press who was interviewing a Ball State University student. The Ball State University field hockey team tied a school record by having a dozen players make the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's National Academic Squad. Soccer star arrested for second time

A Ball State University soccer player was arrested Saturday for the second time in a year, according to police and jail officials. Junior Jennifer Vilkoski, 21, was arrested at her off-campus home on charges of failure to appear in court, according to police reports.

Ball State University men's basketball assistant coach Jim Molinari has accepted the head coaching position at Western Illinois University and will leave the Cardinals. WGEM-TV in Quincy, Ill., reported late Thursday night that Molinari had beaten out Ray Harper, former longtime coach at Oklahoma City University of the NAIA, for the Leathernecks' coaching job.

In an effort to increase political activeness on campus, three Ball State University students have organized a letter-writing campaign event for Saturday. Student organizer Betsy Mills said the event, which will be at 1 p.m. in the Art Museum, will focus on five issues: student rights, diversity, poverty, the environment and human rights.

Obama tickets run out

Despite taking names and phone numbers Wednesday for a waiting list for tickets, the Barack Obama campaign said, there will be no more tickets available for Saturday's speech. Genet Tseggai, communications director for Obama's Indiana campaign office, said everyone who received a ticket will be guaranteed entrance to Irving Gym.

Ball State University senior guard Peyton Stovall was named second team all-senior all-American by the Lowe's Senior CLASS award. The teams were announced along with the recipient of the Lowe's Senior CLASS award during the NCAA Men's Final Four games. Shan Foster of Vanderbilt University was announced as the winner.

Gmail can now send Ball State messages

University Computing Services has been able to adjust its filtering system so users can send Gmail messages as Ball State University messages. Changes to the filter allowing Gmail to be used were put in place on Monday. Loren Malm, interim assistant vice president of information technology, said UCS filters looked at a part of the e-mail that users cannot see to detect if the message was from a spammer.

Dining encourages students to order food on Internet

When Dining initiated its online food ordering system Fall Semester it intended for the service to make lines shorter for Ball State University students wanting to get something to eat. Deb Hutton, manager of training for Dining, said that concept has not happened as well as Dining would like because of low marketing, but students are still using the service to get the quickest, most efficient food service possible.
