For a long time, the beauty of Twitter has been in its brevity. In fact, these two sentences total in the 140 characters a tweet is made of. Minus the punctuation, actually. Proper grammar and punctuation become issues, making the need for slang and abbreviation essential in tweeting. Which works and perhaps is even preferred in some cases, because a tweet is inherently different from a Facebook post or blog entry. You have to say what you mean concisely, with none of this flowery language I’m implementing in this introductory paragraph.

Odds are, you’re going to spot a witch this Halloween. Browsing any costume shop, you can easily find the pointed hat, an assortment of brooms, dark capes and velveteen dresses. This witchy aesthetic of black-painted nails fanned over tarot cards, dried herbs hanging from ceilings, and crystals scattered in moonlight is now admired all year long, and sometimes by those who claim to be witches themselves.

October is typically characterized for all things Halloween: ghosts, pumpkins, witches, and all things spooky. For those immersed in the arts community, it’s a little different. We’re back witches! This week we talk about the end of an era- Teen Wolf has officially come to an end. While the popular MTV show may be over (although it will continue in the form of a podcast) it’s legacy as a show of ships will live on. But these ships raise many interesting questions about queerbaiting, or when a show teases that a couple characters may be LGBTQ+ with no intention of actually exploring that plot. And Teen Wolf isn’t the only show to blame; shows like Supernatural, Sherlock, Merlin, and many more fall into this trap. Hear what we have to say about this topic on this episode of The Coven!

YouTube has often been credited as being the platform that supports stories we don’t often see in the mainstream. It was the launch pad for hundreds of vloggers and their unique experiences and lent itself to represent those whose stories weren’t getting told on television. A massive part of YouTube’s community has centered around the queer experience, it being the base of the “It Gets Better Project” and gay vloggers like Tyler Oakley or Hannah Hart who have become synonymous with the YouTube brand. So it would follow that YouTube would do its utmost to preserve, protect, and even promote queer content, right?
