In what graduate student goalkeeper Tristen Stuteville described as “a small check-in to our ultimate destination,” Ball State Soccer (3-0-0, 0-0 MAC) was able to hold off Illinois State (1-2-0, 0-0 Missouri Valley) in a 1-0 victory Thursday.

After scoring six goals as a team on Friday, senior forward Sam Kambol scored the lone goal for Ball State Soccer (2-0-0, 0-0 MAC) Sunday in a 1-0 victory over Marquette (0-2-0, 0-0 Big East) Sunday. The win extended the Cardinals’ unbeaten streak to 11-0-2 over their past 13 games.

Redshirt sophomore C.J. Jones matched his career-best at the Mid-American Conference Championships Saturday, finishing with a total score of 144 through two rounds to tie for third place. However, it was not enough to lead Ball State Men’s Golf to a top-five finish. Inclement weather postponed Friday and Sunday’s rounds, making Saturday’s standings final.

Coming off a 2018 season that saw Ball State Men’s Volleyball head to the MIVA semifinals, great expectations were on the line heading into 2019. From the addition of four freshmen, including outside attacker Kaleb Jenness, as well as a number of returners, confidence was key for the Cardinals early.

It’s been a productive spring season for freshman Joey Ranieri, coming off strong performances at the Butler Invitational and Mason Rudolph Championship for Ball State Men’s Golf. Although the Cardinals fell short of a top-10 finish at the Boilermaker Invite on April 13-14, placing 11th out of 15 teams, Ranieri’s score of 143 placed him in a tie for 22nd through two rounds to lead the team.

In a match which saw Ball State Men’s Volleyball (15-15, 6-9 MIVA) go to extra points in its final three sets, the Cardinals ultimately fell short of a MIVA Semifinals with a 3-2 loss to McKendree (13-12, 7-8 MIVA) in the MIVA Quarterfinals Saturday.

It’s been 160 days since Ball State Soccer ended its 2018 season with a 1-1 loss (5-4 in penalty kicks) to Bowling Green to end the MAC tournament. However, the team has been back in action since February, playing five games as part of its annual spring season.

Senior Timothy Wiseman hit 4-under-par 67 in his opening round Friday, but Ball State Men’s Golf fell short of a top-10 finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship April 5-7 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Cardinals finished 15th out of 17 teams, with a combined score of 870 to finish 5-over par.

After a 3-2 comeback victory over McKendree on Thursday and seven days remaining until the MIVA quarterfinals, Ball State Men’s Volleyball (15-14, 6-8 MIVA) concluded its regular season Saturday night against Ohio State (10-18, 5-9 MIVA). However, the Cardinals would let go of a 2-1 lead through three sets as the Buckeyes would prevail in five, 3-2.

Freshman Joey Ranieri’s score of 140 led all individuals and Ball State Men’s Golf at the Butler Invitational on April 1 and 2. Ranieri, who recorded a career low of 69 on Monday, tied for fourth along with Purdue Fort Wayne’s Eric Brinker and Butler’s Raymond Sullivan.

No. 15 Ball State Men’s Volleyball (12-10, 3-4 MIVA) held its annual Senior Night Saturday, but it was a junior in outside attacker Matt Szews’ season-high 21 kills that propelled the Cardinals to a 3-1 comeback victory over Penn State.
