MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- If you have lived in Muncie for longer than a week, you have probably figured out that every Friday at 11 am the city tests the tornado sirens. That is unless you spend your days living or working in one of the many locations around the city that are not listed as being covered by a siren. While this can be cause for concern, it is also important to understand what outdoor warning sirens are meant to and not meant to do. To find out more check out the full story in the video above.

MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- After enjoying nearly a week of sunshine and warm temperatures, rain finally returns to east central Indiana. Clouds will start to build into the region in the afternoon hours on Wednesday, making what started as a partly cloudy day, mostly cloudy by the afternoon and evening. Some scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening as well. These chances will increase as we head into Thursday, as rain and storm chances become likely throughout the day. Rainfall for Thursday is forecast to be near an inch in places across the region, on the higher side if you get hit by a heavier thunderstorm. This rain will linger into Friday morning, before the clouds start to move out by Friday evening, leading to a sunny weekend. The temps will cool off following the rainfall, but will rebound back into the 70s by Sunday. Following the nice weekend, rain chances return late on Monday and look to last into Tuesday, as temps continue to hover in the 70s. Stay dry Ball State!

MUNCIE, IN (WCRD Weather) -- After the storm has passed many think the danger is over, but that is not always the case. The time immediately following the storm can be some of the most dangerous if you are not careful. From downed power lines, to flooded roads and sharp or dangerous debris, it is important that one takes extra care following a storm to stay safe until emergency services can secure the area. WCRD Weather Forecasters Chelsea Smith and Kendra Rauner explain the information that you need to know in order to stay safe immediately following the storm.

MUNCIE, IN (WCRD Weather) -- One of the most important parts of severe weather week is learning how to respond to severe weather. There are many steps you as an individual can take, including enacting your family disaster plan and keeping a record of your families medical needs, just to name a few. However, there are many other agencies across the state that take action to respond to severe weather. These included the National Weather Service (NWS), Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS), the Red Cross, local emergency services, and the media. All of these organizations have an important role to play in responding to severe weather. For more information about the steps each of these groups takes during severe weather check out the following report filed by WCRD Forecasters Molly Coates, Ethan Rosuck, and Caleb Saylor.

MUNCIE, IN (WCRD Weather) -- Indiana Severe Weather Preparedness Week continued on Tuesday with a statewide test tornado warning and drill. These drills took place at 10:15 in the morning and 7:35 in the evening. The purpose of these drills was to allow families, businesses, and schools to practice their severe weather action plans. Part of that action plan is knowing the difference between a watch and a warning, and what to do in the event a watch or warning is issued. The key word to a severe weather warning is action. When a warning is issued you need to take action, severe weather is occurring. For more information about severe weather warnings, check out Adam and I's report below.

MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- Warm temps take over east central Indiana as strong southwesterly winds bring in a welcomed spring-like air mass. This weather pattern will also bring in mostly cloudy skies and temps around 60 for Wednesday, before rain chances start to build Wednesday evening. Rain, and some rumbles of thunder, are expected for late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, with the heaviest precipitation expected over Muncie during the 7 am to 9 am hours. After that, lingering rain is expected throughout the day, with the possibility of even seeing a flurry on the back end of this system Thursday night, as temperatures take a plunge. The low Thursday night into Friday is expected to be around the freezing mark. Sun returns for Friday and Saturday, as temps recover, but Easter again brings the likelihood of rain. Temperatures will be mild throughout the day, but for any egg hunts or other outdoor activities a rain coat will be recommend. MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- Our temperatures are taking a massive dive as we head into Tuesday night, with lows bottoming out in the lower 20s. Making things much worse will be the wind chill factor. Winds in the 10 to 20 mph range, with gusts over 20, will create wind chill values in the teens to single digits. The sun will come out for a a period on Wednesday afternoon, before more clouds move in ahead of snow arriving late Wednesday and early Thursday. Snow will continue to fall throughout Thursday morning, likely making for a tricky morning commute. Total accumulations are expected to be in the 1 to 2 inch range as of this time, but the temps will be rising throughout the day on Thursday, eventually leading to a rain/snow mix in the early afternoon, likely causing most of the snow that fell earlier in the day to start to melt. Another snow/rain chance arrives on early Saturday as the temps begin to rise as Ball State starts spring break, with temperatures reaching into the 60s by next Tuesday. For more details on the snow and your spring break weather, be sure to check out the most recent video forecast.

MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- Some scattered light snow and flurries will be around east central Indiana for tonight. This snowfall will not amount to any real accumulation, but it could make things a little slick if you are traveling in the overnight hours. Following this snowfall clouds will remain around the region throughout Wednesday, with temps rising into the lower 30s. These temps will continue to rise through Thursday, with a high of 40, and eventually all the way up to a high of 59 by Friday. A small rain chance is also possible on Friday, which will lead to slightly cooler temperatures for Saturday and Sunday. More slight rain chances arrive on Sunday and into Monday as temps continue to fall, with the sun returning on Tuesday, as the temps will settle back down into the upper 30s. Get ready for a warm weekend Ball State!
(02/03/16 5:51am)
MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- Rain showers will come to an end this evening, but sadly so will the warm weather. The high for Wednesday will occur just after midnight with temperatures continuing to fall throughout the day on Wednesday. Clouds will linger around the region, with some snow flurries possible during Wednesday afternoon and evening. Following Wednesday the skies will begin to clear and the temps will again rise to above normal levels as we head toward the weekend. This round of warm weather should last until Sunday night, when some snow is possible ahead of the next potential round of winter weather starting Monday. That system will drop temperatures back down into the twenties and bring snow chances to the region for both Monday and Tuesday. Be thankful for the warm weather while it lasted.

MUNCIE, IN (WCRD News) -- With the news of former Ball State President Paul Ferguson's sudden resignation only a few days old, many students took it upon themselves to attend today's Board of Trustees meeting in hopes of learning more about why Ferguson stepped down less than two years into a five year contract. To the frustration of many in attendance, today's meeting did not provide them with much new information. While the meeting did not yield the results many students were hoping for, it did provide them with a venue to make their frustrations known to the Board. WCRD News was there to cover the event and compiled the meeting and interviews with both the board and students into the following special report.

MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- Snow is again forecast to return to Muncie, but don't expect to see anything resembling a winter wonderland. This weather system will start out with rain moving through the region in the late morning to early afternoon hours of Wednesday. This will transition to a rain/snow mix throughout the afternoon, eventually becoming all snow by the evening hours. We are not expecting any heavy accumulations at this time, but areas that get under a heavier snow shower could see accumulations around half an inch to maybe an inch in some isolated areas. Following this weather system high pressure will take over, with sunny skies and slightly above average temperatures, finishing out the forecast. Be sure to see the forecast explained in full detail by clicking on the video above!

MUNCIE, IN (WCRD Weather) -- Winter weather week has almost come to an end but there is still plenty to discuss. One of the major things people look to every year is the long term winter weather outlook, which this year is indicating a warmer and drier than average winter. These outlooks can be helpful, but they certainly don't mean it won't get cold and that it won't snow. With that in mind it is always important to know what to look for when it comes to cold weather injuries, such as hypothermia and frostbite, and to know how to treat these conditions. WCRD Chief Weather Forecaster Michael Behrens and Forecaster Adam Grimes have more details in today's stream!
