Then came Darius Rucker, and for at least 20 years, he was among the few non-white artists. According to a SongData study, 2.3% of ACM Awards and 1.6% of CMA Awards nominees between 2000 and 2019 were people of color.

Looking for an up-and-coming artist for International Women's Month? South Carolina native Coco Jones is an artist on the verge of superstardom. She was previously known for playing Roxie Jones, a rising popstar, on the hit Disney Channel original movie Let It Shine which premiered in 2012. Today, you can hear her single “ICU” on her new EP What I Didn’t Tell You (Deluxe) which was released on Jan. 20, 2023.

If you are looking for a new artist over the holidays, why not give December’s Artist of the Month, Ashe, a try! Ashe is a singer songwriter from California, known for her song, “Moral of the Story,” released on Valentine’s Day in 2019, and featured in the Netflix movie To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. Even though many people might know of Ashe because of this song, she has gone on to create a successful music career, with two albums under her belt. Ashe started her Fun While It Lastedworld tour in November of 2022, and will finish out the tour in March of 2023.

Growing up in the early 2000s, I watched a lot of Disney Channel. I lived, ate, and breathed Kim Possible, That’s So Raven, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. One show that stood out to me was Wizards of Waverly Place. For most fans of the show, the family dynamic, magic, or romantic relationships kept them tuning in each week, but for a niche group of devoted fans—it was Harper Finkle and her unique style. Harper Finkle, while just a side character, always debuted show-stopping outfits that fully encompassed her quirky and extraordinary personality. I have always loved Harper and her sense of style , but there will always be a best and a worst. Today, I will be ranking Harper’s outfits from best to worst based on aesthetic, uniqueness, and functionality/movement.

Quickly barreling out of the New Orleans DIY music scene is knockout vocalist Alli Logout, guitarist Maria Elena, bassist Nathan Cassiani, and sonic soundmaker Ruth Mascelli. Together, the group deftly crafts explosive dance grooves and post-hardcore noise into complementary waves of glitzy sound. These artists are hot off the release of their 2022 album Endure which cemented their influence as revolutionists of a new sound and social consciousness.

Hillerska, a prestigious Swedish boarding school, is blessed to house the country’s Crown Prince…and his secret boyfriend. Young Royals was released on Netflix in 2021, and was a gigantic hit (Season one got a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes). Following this success, season two opens with Prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) and Simon (Omar Rudberg) still reeling from last season’s sex tape scandal and the negative effect it had on their relationship.

Matthew Harui, more widely known as Yung Gravy, initially rose to fame with his 2016 single Mr. Clean. The 26-year-old rapper grew up in Minnesota and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he graduated a semester early following the surprising success of "Mr. Clean in 2017. The song had gained traction on Soundcloud, kickstarting his career.

Another episode of The Winchesters came to our screens this week, and some ofthe characters have past skeletons in their closets that are exposed. From a newcreature comes to take people and make them vulnerable, to finding out theidentity of the Akrida and its motives. It’s only been three episodes into theseason and the show keeps on finding ways to keep it exciting and interestingby bringing in a new creature for the characters to hunt while also trying tohunt the big bad of the season: the Akrida. We are finding out piece about itlittle by little, and it’s been interesting to watch.
