Muncie’s Bridge Dinner returns to the community

Muncie' annual Bridge Dinner on Washington Street

MUNCIE, Ind.— Muncie’s Bridge Dinner returned to the Washington Street Bridge Thursday evening after a COVID-19 hiatus.

The annual dinner is a free-entry event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. that provides food, drinks, music, t-shirts, items, art and community tables across the Washington Street Bridge to bring the Muncie community together. Muncie’s Bridge Dinner started in September 2017 and is made possible through the support of organizations in the area.

“Before COVID, we had it [Bridge Dinner] twice annually, but this is our comeback from fall 2019, so we’re pretty excited to be here,” Bridge Dinner Committee Chair Susan Volbrecht said. “I think that before COVID, it was something different. It was just a chance to come together and have a little fun and celebrate really just a beautiful spot to have dinner.”

Volbrecht said that over 600 people attended the last Bridge Dinner in the fall of 2019.

“It’s pretty exciting actually,” Bridge Dinner volunteer Gannon Franklin said. “I’m glad to see all the people get back together.”
