Ball State gymnastics places second at NC State

Ball State gymnastics (5-3) had its fourth-straight second place finish at North Carolina State on Saturday.

The Cardinals started out on the beam where senior Baylee Bell hit a team high score of 9.850 which was enough for third place overall. Freshman Vicky Garcia followed with a fourth place tying score of 9.775. The Cardinals saw a 0.275-point improvement on beam.

On floor, freshman Tia Kiaku and junior Sydney Finke fell into a three-way tie for fifth place with a score of 9.800. On vault, sophomore Maddie MacDonald fell into a three-way tie for third scoring a 9.800.

The Cardinals ended the meet on bars, an event the team struggled with last weekend. They saw a major improvement in the event going up 2.475 points from last weekend. Senior Jordyn Penny tied for third place with a score of 9.800 and senior Jillian Hacker tied for sixth place with a score of 9.775. The Cardinals finish with a second place score of 194.750.

With their second place finish, the Cardinals saw point improvements in three of four events and improved their overall score by 3.025 points. While the Cardinals had much improvement this weekend, the squad still sit at No. 46 early on.

The Cardinals will host No. 22 Kent State next weekend, for one of their three home meets this season.
