LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Retired soldier encourages education on elections

The most memorable line from "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" was "Morons, I'm surrounded by morons." This is the sentiment I feel toward the many who are legal residents of this country when it's time to cast a ballot for the governing of our county, state and nation.

Regardless of political affiliation, what better word than "moron" describes the citizen living in the USA today who is unable to get registered to vote, unable to find the correct voting location, unable to allocate 30 minutes during a 12-hour period to cast a ballot, unable to identify the candidates or inform themselves about a candidate's abilities or political positions beyond the 30- and 60-second media sound bites, etc.?

It is a sad day when so few will honor the precious sacrifice of life, limb and mental health made on our behalf. The battle cry of our military remains unchanged: Duty, Honor, Country.

I challenge you to honor the ongoing sacrifices being made for you. Become informed about your candidates and any question appearing on the ballot. Then show up and vote your conscience for the greater good and glory of the USA.
