Horseback riding, carnival-themed food and student performances are just a few of the activities planned for University Program Board's annual Fall Fest, occurring today on University Green from 6 to 10 p.m.
Jordan Habayeb, sophomore communication studies major and program director for Fall Fest, said this year's event features all new activities.
"Everything will be free, and all of it is new," Habayeb said. "We've completely redone the event."
UPB plans to hold future events on weekdays to increase attendance.
"This will be the first time [Fall Fest] will be held on a weekday because of the [success] of Splash Bash," he said.
Other activities include pumpkin carving, pumpkin painting, cornhole and free carnival food including caramel apples, caramel corn, corn dogs, pumpkin pie and apple cider.
Dillon Kimmel, vice president of UPB marketing, said he hopes that the warmer weather this fall will boost attendance at the event.
"If we could get 500-plus people to show up, that would be great," Kimmel said. "It was 15 degrees colder last year, but we're really hoping it will be beautiful for the event."
The current forecast for Wednesday night ranges from 65 to 55 degrees over the course of the event.
Music acts during Fall Fest include Cincinnati-based Walk the Moon, who has performed at various colleges including Butler, as well as four student acts. Kimmel said UPB held auditions last month and chose the four acts, which will perform every hour.
"This event will showcase those students to the Ball State community," Kimmel said.
Student performances include acoustics by Emma Wade, Amanda Kirklin, The Goodnight Fields and Cantilever, a seven-person band of architecture students who play unusual instruments.
The event is free for Ball State students and $1 for guests.
