On Friday and Saturday in Memphis, Tenn., the Ball State University women's tennis team finished out its fall season with victories at the Lady Tigers Invitational.
Freshman Hayley Hall defeated Jessica Flannery of Southern Illinois University 6-0, 6-0 and Marta Gomez-Jordana of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock 6-2, 6-1 to claim the Division II singles championship.
Senior Jennifer Pollack, playing in her hometown, won the Division III singles championship by defeating Dara Touch of the University of Memphis 7-6 (4), 6-3 and Ashley Pierson of Murray State University 6-1, 4-6, 10-4.
Sophomore Sophie Quist won two matches on Friday to advance to the Division I championship semifinals before losing to Michaela Cruise of Southern Illinois 4-6, 6-7 (5) on Saturday.
Junior Emma Retter advanced to the finals of her bracket by beating Lindsey Wiseman of Memphis 6-3, 6-2 before losing the championship to Arkansas-Little Rock's Nathalia Garay 7-5, 5-7, 7-10.
In doubles action, the team of Pollack and senior Haly Calderwood defeated the Southern Illinois team of Flannery and Sabine Tsala Mvilongo 9-8 (4) in consolation play in Division I doubles. The team of Hall and Retter lost to the team of Garay and Patricia Cortes of Arkansas-Little Rock 5-8 in Division II doubles consolation.
The Cardinals will begin their spring competition season in Bloomington at the Indiana University Doubles Tournament on Jan. 12.
