An assistant swimming coach will be leaving Ball State University by July 1 to accept a head coaching position at the University of South Dakota.
Jason Mahowald will coach both the men's and women's teams for the university, replacing Ron Allen, who resigned earlier this spring.
Mahowald has been with Ball State since August 2003. His duties included conducting workouts, arranging travel needs and helping with recruiting for the Cardinals.
The Ball State men's team finished third at this year's Mid-American Conference championship, and the women's team finished fourth.
Before coming to Ball State, Mahowald was the head middle-distance coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point. From 2002 to 2003, he coached six Division III All-American players.
