LETTER: Conservative speaker did not deserve attention

Dear Editor,

Shame on the Daily News for their appalling coverage of the same-sex marriage "issue" in its Feb. 16 issue. Despite a barrage of national and international new events that could have been highlighted, they gave almost three-fourths of the front page to cover an event wherein a religious organization brought in a speaker to "preach about" (a.k.a. belittle and demean) gays and lesbians (what is the adage about actions speaking louder than words?). The last time I checked, this was a public institution, and I refuse to believe that an event sponsored by one conservative campus organization deserves such attention, especially since you left out any mention of recent landmark decisions on gay marriage, including the most recent ruling by the mayor of San Francisco. This article, with its mention of people who claim to have been "changed" or "saved" from homosexuality, is an insult to the many of us who aren't afraid to live and speak openly about our sexuality. I also take issue with your spineless editorial that doesn't even address the issue at hand. Although you will claim to have covered both sides of the "issue," many of us see through your biased and traditionalist coverage.
