SLALOM EVENTS EMPHASIZE PRECISION

In addition to braving harrowing speeds, slalom events add a series of gates, represented by flags on the course, that the skier must go around to avoid penalty. The fastest skier wins. This year marks a first for snowboarders with the parallel giant slalom - a head-to-head battle in which two snowboarders race on identical courses.

CANADIAN GOLD?

Jasey Jay Anderson is one of three Canadians competing in the parallel giant slalom and is one of the favorites to win. Anderson, 26, is coming off a giant slalom win in the 2001 FIS World Championships and the 2001 overall World Cup title.
