Task force seizes $50,000 in cocaine

Arrest of Muncie woman is culmination of a three-month collaborative investigation.

A Muncie woman was arrested Wednesday for possession of $50,000 worth of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Kyle Corbin, 22, of 724 W. Powers St., was stopped in her vehicle on the corner of Bethel and Tillotson avenues and found with at least 500 grams of cocaine, according to Task Force Investigator Jess Neal.

Neal said it was too early in the investigation to tell if the drugs could be linked to Ball State, but he said the task force knew the cocaine was being distributed to several individuals in Delaware County.

Corbin is not a Ball State student.

Nearby witnesses said they saw a vehicle parked outside at 5 p.m. Wednesday. At 5:30 p.m. two men with guns and a third man wearing camouflage jumped into the vehicle.

"We saw one jump into the bushes and go to a car that peeled out and drove toward Tillotson."

One witness said she then saw five police cars surround two people lying on the ground in handcuffs.

The arrest was part of a three-month investigation by a drug task force comprised of state, county, Muncie and Ball State police officers. Neal said the individual arrest was part of an ongoing investigation.

"We're still tying up loose ends and tracking down the drugs from their source," he said.

Two other individuals were also detained, but no information was released at presstime.

Corbin was on probation after being arrested for cocaine possession with her sister Kelly Corbin in April 1999.

The two were arrested for possession of cocaine, dealing cocaine, possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.

According to Neal, Corbin's bond doubled to about $60,000 because it was a Class A felony and because she was a convicted felon.
