Injured women's condition improves to fair at hospital

A woman admitted to Ball Memorial Hospital's intensive care unit Sunday evening has been upgraded to fair condition, hospital officials said Monday.

Officials said the patient was probably removed from the intensive care unit.

Meredith Foster was taken to Ball Memorial after she was involved in an accident occurring shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Five others went to the hospital with her, but were treated and released that night.

According to police reports, the accident was the result of a chain reaction initiated by the rear-end collision of a southbound maroon sedan into a blue Honda Civic stopped at the intersection of Tillotson and Euclid avenues.

The collision sent the Honda's front end into the front driver's side of another vehicle stopped in the opposite lane. The maroon sedan stopped on the lawn of the Northside Church of God, 1505 N. Tillotson Ave.

Fire units were called to the scene after the Honda's gas tank erupted. Responding units extinguished the blaze in minutes.
